History of the car industry in Keighley

The car industry in Keighley has a long and proud history. The town has been home to many car manufacturers over the years, including the Keighley Car Company, which was founded in 1898. The company produced a range of vehicles, including the first ever mass-produced car in the UK, the Keighley Ten.

The company went on to produce a number of other popular models, including the Keighley Six and the Keighley Twelve. The company was bought by the Rootes Group in 1926, and production continued until 1931 when the factory was closed.

In the years following the closure of the Keighley Car Company, a number of other car manufacturers set up shop in the town, including the Austin Motor Company and the Morris Motor Company. However, the town's car-making heritage came to an end in the 1980s when the last car factory in Keighley, the Austin Rover Group, closed its doors.
