History of the car industry in Rothwell

The car industry in Rothwell can be traced back to the early years of the twentieth century when a number of local companies were established to produce cars for the Rothwell market. One of the earliest and most successful of these was the Rothwell Motor Company, which was founded in 1909. The company produced a range of cars which were popular with both the local and national market, and it was also responsible for setting up the first car dealership in the town.

However, the Rothwell Motor Company was not the only car manufacturer in the town, and in the years that followed a number of other companies were also established. These included the Rothwell Autocar Company, which was founded in 1911, and the Rothwell Car Company, which was established in 1913.

The first half of the twentieth century was a boom period for the car industry in Rothwell, and the town became known as the Motor Town due to the large number of car factories that were based there. However, the industry began to decline in the latter half of the century, and by the early 1990s there were only a handful of car manufacturers left in the town.

Today, the car industry in Rothwell is a shadow of its former self, but there are still a number of companies based in the town. These include the Rothwell Auto Company, which produces a range of cars for the domestic market, and the Rothwell Engineering Company, which specializes in the production of car parts.
